Turn one of your interests into a skill you can use.
A 30-day course with an AI coach, from a former skill-acquisition coach who worked with 1,000+ athletes. Choose one skill, practice it in real situations, and build a small project where it meets something you already know. About one hour a day. One payment.
Launch price $44 until Nov 11. Then $97.
Give that interest a place in your life
You save the lesson. Buy the book. Watch someone else do the thing you want to do.
For a while, it feels as though you're getting somewhere.
Then you sit down to try it yourself, and the same question is waiting: “What do I actually do now?”
Maybe it's writing. Guitar. Design. Speaking. A skill you could use in your work, or something you'd love to do for its own sake.
Overlap gives you a place to begin, a daily attempt to make, and a way to decide what comes next.
You bring one interest. Over the next 30 days, you put it to work.
This course is for you, if...
- You have an interest you keep coming back to and haven't started. You don't need to know how to begin. Week 1 helps you choose.
- You have a lot of saved lessons and not much to show for them. You do the thing every day and keep a record of what happened.
- You already have something you're good at. That ability is where your project starts, and you use it.
- You want a plan and a guide, without being told what to think. The coach asks questions and reacts to your work. It does not do the work for you.
This is not for you if you want a promise of mastery, income, or followers in 30 days. It doesn't make that promise.
A small project gives the learning a purpose
Picture something you could show another person.
A short video explaining something you know. A useful little tool. A piece of music you can play. A guide that helps someone solve a problem you've already worked through.
In Overlap, you choose one new skill and work toward three specific things you want to do with it. Then you use that skill alongside an ability you already have to make one small project.
That combination is the overlap.
Your experience gives you somewhere to start. The new skill gives you another way to use it.
Here's how you learn it
Reading a lesson can help you begin. Using the idea gives you something to examine.
You make an attempt with a clear plan. You look at what happened. You choose one thing to change and try again.
As you go, the course helps you pay attention to three things:
- The setting: Where is the skill used, and what do you need to respond to there?
- The guidance: Who or what can help you notice something you're missing?
- The next decision: What does this attempt tell you to try next?
The research behind this comes from Woods, Rudd, Gray, and Davids' 2021 paper on enskilment, building on Tim Ingold's work. It describes learning through doing, in context, with guidance.
Overlap applies those ideas to a month of practice. Its exercises, targets, and projects are Sam Elsner's approach.
Your 30 days have a clear direction
Week 1: Find what you already have.
List the abilities you already have. Pick one interest to work on. Take small exploratory attempts, then write three things you want to be able to show by Day 30.
Week 2: Go where the skill lives.
Find the smallest real version you can attempt. Study useful examples. Learn what to notice. Try different ways through the same problem.
Week 3: Find out what holds up.
Change a condition. Borrow an approach from something you already know. Put work in front of another person and use what happens to shape the next attempt.
Week 4: Build the overlap.
Choose one small project that joins the new skill with an existing one. Make a first version, test it, revise it, and put it in the hands of the person it's for.
Check-ins on Days 7, 14, 21, and 30 help you compare the plan with what you've actually done. Day 29 gives you room to catch up.
Know what to do when you open the lesson
Each lesson gives you a specific task and an honest time estimate.
You'll see an explanation, a worked example, and a visual that helps you use the idea. The steps tell you what to attempt. A copyable prompt helps you bring that attempt to the coach. The finish line tells you when you've done enough for the day.
Set aside about an hour. Some setup and check-in days are shorter.
The point is to leave the session with something to examine: a piece of work, an attempt, an observation, or a decision you can use tomorrow.
Get help at the moment you need it
The AI coach knows the course and Sam's method.
Bring it the skill you're considering, the attempt you're planning, or the work you've just made. It can help you narrow the task, ask a useful question, and critique what you share.
It also helps you keep your Overlap Record: your chosen skill, three targets, attempts, observations, and project. The record comes from what you report and confirm.
You can see what you've tried and where to begin next time.
This is an AI coach built by Sam. You bring it your questions and work, and it helps you decide what to try next.

Choose a result you can actually test
The course asks you to set three targets in Week 1.
Each one is a specific thing you want to be able to do with the skill. You decide what it looks like and test it through things you can do. It isn't a measured percentage of a skill.
For writing, that might mean finishing a short explanation, getting a reader's response, and revising it so the point is clearer.
For guitar, it might mean playing a short piece at a steady pace, making its chord changes, and recovering when you miss one.
The starting point and task matter. Thirty days creates a period of focused practice; your progress comes from what you do in it.
Choose the interest you want to spend that time on.
Overlap will help you give the next attempt a clear job.

What this is
This is a course you can talk to.
Read the day's lesson, make the attempt, and bring the result to the OVERLAP AI coach. Ask how the task fits your skill, where to make it smaller, or what to examine in your work. Its answers draw on Sam Elsner's lessons and method. You stay responsible for the attempt and the decisions.
Get started: set up my Overlap Record and tell me what Day 1 looks like.
Overlap
Good question. Here's what Sam Elsner teaches about that, and how it fits what you're doing.
What you can ask
- Get started: set up my Overlap Record and tell me what Day 1 looks like.
- Help me pick my new skill and set my three targets.
- Here's the attempt I just did. Help me plan, try, look and change.
- Check-in: here's my week. Where am I against my three targets?

Questions
How much time should I set aside?
About an hour a day for the lesson, the attempt, and a short review. Setup and check-in days are shorter. Each lesson gives a time estimate and a clear finish line.
What if I don't know which skill to choose?
Week 1 helps you find one. You'll list what you already do, look at the interests you keep returning to, and choose one skill for this month. The coach can help you narrow the choice.
What kinds of skills can I work on?
The course is about how to practice, so you can apply it to skills such as writing, music, design, speaking, or building small tools. Choose something you can attempt, observe, and test in your current setting. Specialized activities may also call for a qualified teacher.
How good will I be in 30 days?
You'll choose three things to demonstrate and work toward them through real attempts. Progress depends on the skill, your starting point, the conditions, and the practice. The course doesn't promise mastery, income, followers, or a job.
What are the three targets?
In Week 1 you write three specific things you want to be able to do with your new skill by Day 30. They are a planning tool. They are not a scientific measurement or a claim about how much of a skill you have learned.
What if I miss a day?
Continue from where you stopped. The weekly check-ins help you resize the next task, and Day 29 is reserved for catching up. Your record keeps the attempts you've already made.
Is the coach Sam, and will it do the work for me?
The coach is an AI built on Sam's lessons and method. It helps you plan, asks questions, and critiques what you share. You make the attempts and the project. The purchase doesn't include private calls or personal replies from Sam.
Do I need the worksheets?
No. The worksheet pack holds the same record the coach helps you keep. Print it if you like working on paper. The course works without it.
Is it a subscription?
No. Overlap is one payment for access to the course and coach. The price on this page is the price you pay. AI chat use follows the usage limits or credits of the app where you use it.
Where do I start?
Open Start here, then Day 1: What you can already do. You'll set up your Overlap Record, list abilities you already have, and make a small exploratory attempt.
